Distinguishing characteristics of the graduates:

The graduates of the Inter-American Program of Applied Macroeconomics will be qualified in a technical way, to effectively contribute in the realization of qualitative and quantitative diagnosis of the macroeconomics situation in their country of origin, and to create a good design of macroeconomic policies.

The thing that most distinguishes and characterizes the specialists that study this Program, is their strength in building and using econometric and simulation models, their capacity to analyze different policies and the projection of different macroeconomic variables. The graduates will be ready to visualize quantitatively the general equilibrium interactions that exist in a macroeconomic system, and to build models of the macroeconomy of a country.

The building of a complete macroeconomic model during the final Seminar, the exercises realized with this instrument, the classes, and other investigation and discussion activities inside the Seminar, will strengthen the capacities of the participants to clearly distinguish what is the cause and the effect, what is exogenous and endogenous, and what is the importance of the different parameters magnitudes to the answer of an economic system in the short and the long term.

These skills are useful to the modelling and analysis of other types of economic phenomena, for this reason, the labour field of the graduates overflows the economic institutions in the public sector which are involved in the policy and study of the macroeconomic phenomena, and extends to other economic spheres in the public sector as well as the private and financial sector.

The graduates have to achieve an equilibrium between the theoretical and practical knowledge, that allows them to be successful professionals.

The students will have to develop skills to work in group and under pressure. The students will develop abilities of oral and writing presentation of their investigations, which is also reinforced in the Seminar.

Relationship between the Inter-American Development Program and the Masters Program.

The students of the Diploma who have a good academic performance may apply, if they wish, to the Master of Applied Macroeconomics or Master in Economics inside the Institute. The transfer can be done in any semester before taking the Seminar of Applied Macroeconomics. Some of the courses made in the Diploma are validated in the Master.
