Can the student present other information that is not required but that supports the postulation? Yes.
Is it possible to apply to the Ph.D. program without background in Economics? Yes, the application is possible but having background studies in Economics is an important selection criteria.
What proficiency level in English is required to enter to the Ph.D. program? It is not necessary that the student officially certifies his/her English knowledge at the time of application. Nevertheless, a sizable proportion of courses’ bibliography and eventually, some lectures, are in English. A deficiency in the language’s knowledge will harm the student’s performance inside the Ph.D. program.
What comes first: the scholarship or the application? Usually, the scholarships institutions require the student to be accepted or in process of acceptance in some accredited academic program. The Ph.D. in Economics is accredited by the Education Ministry since 2003. Nevertheless, each scholarship institution has its own rules and is the student’s responsibility to know them.
Fees:
How is the Ph.D. program paid? For 2012, the program cost is CLP $ $ 4.230.000. It can be divided into 10 equal monthly payments of CLP $ 423,000 (four hundred twenty-three thousand pesos).
Is it possible to pay more than one year at a time? No, because the registration renews every semester according to the student’s academic progress.
Is it possible to obtain a discount if the complete year is paid in its beginnings? Or if the complete semester is paid in its beginnings? Yes. The students who pays the complete year or semester before it begins, can obtain a discount. This discount is variable and it adjusts every semester depending on the going interest rate. For example, the discount for the academic year that began in March 2005, was a 1%, and the discount for the 2005’s first semester was also a 1%. It is important to mention that in case that the student is eliminate in the first semester, he or she is the responsible to ask for the return of the second academic semester’s fee in the Admission Office.
Transfer credits:
Holding already a Master degree, is it possible to transfer credits? It is possible, but requesting it does not guarantee a positive answer. To request it, write a letter with the details and attach: 1) The syllabus for each course you are requesting credit transferring 2) The corresponding transcripts 3) The CV of the faculty member that taught the course 4) It is helpful to include the tests and exams of each course
Attending the Ph.D. program:
Is it possible to study for the Ph.D. program and work at the same time? No. Eventually, some working hours could be combined with the Ph.D. studies. Nevertheless, the program is designed to be attended in the exclusive dedication mode.
